What separates XCAP completely from other platforms is that it's collaborative. All content is created directly from the website.  As a site owner you decide what type of user is allow to do what in what module.

Instead of using a CMS for news and articles, we have turned our Blog Engine into an efficient SEO supplier of dynamic content. The tool is optimized to be easy to use while still providing a very professional result.

The Blog has a category tree, tags (keywords), comments, rating, search (with results in RSS if desired), support for video/images/files (with support for white-list/black-list URLs, WYSIWYG tools for formatting article texts, support for templates, RSS feeds, top lists for authors, most read article (even those in the RSS), time publishing and much more. 

XCAP uses a traditional CMS only for publishing static content. Instead of hiding your stuff in complex directory structures, XCAP lets you click in your webpage where ever you want to add or edit content. Using a simply WYSIWYG editor that handles, text, images, video and even flash and HTML. All anyone needs to be able to edit the pages is access rights. You as a site owner may give such right to anyone you choose.
XCAP also lets you edit and override any Style Sheets (CSS) you want, right on the page. This lets you change the appearance on your site completely with the flick of a wrist. Imagine the possibilities of being able to style your website by season, holiday or any other theme you can think of.

All forum and threads have RSS support. Users can create threads, post in them and quote other posts. We even have support for search results with RSS. Posts are created in the WYSIWYG editor and have support for both images and video.?The forums are extremely SEO optimized and give very good results in search engines. Categories of forums created in XCAP Admin can contain sub-categories and forums in parallel. There are various top lists including latest post, most read thread and much more.

The Gallery in XCAP is very useful. Basically it is a common gallery where users can upload images. Each image will have its own URL (permalinks), title & description. Rating, top lists and article comments are also included. There is also support for the "Share This" and "Like" buttons. There is a dedicated image search where results are available as RSS if you wish.

The Gallery is great place to create competitions for your users. Using the top list features (top rated, most viewed) it's easy to motivate users to upload and share images.

Finally a collaborative Event Calendar that allows for user generated events.

Each event supports, maps, images, videos, texts, start/stop date, start/stop time, comments, rating and sharing. The overall event page has top lists, rss support and iCalendar support.

Users can register themselves the traditional way or login/register using Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, or other OpenID solution.
The standard solution in XCAP is an internal user database, but if you prefer it can easily be switched or integrated with your existing user database.

We know where you are and we know where are modules are. That is of course very interesting to match and we have all this nice data connected to a location database.This means that we can list articles that have happend or been created at a specific location to a user with a specific location. Very cool!

Each article and/or comments may be marked with a rate 1-5 or thumbs up/down rating. This can also be used in forum posts or other objects.  We also have Rating on Blogs and gallery photos by default. In the backend there are many types of checks to limit cheating and we have a very sophisticated algorithm to calculate number of votes vs. grade.  

XCAP is tightly integrated with Facebook and Twitter and supports both registration and login from all major social services and mail suppliers. All posts and uploaded photos in the gallery have Facebook's "Like" buttons and "Share This" widgets, letting users share across all major social networks (you can of course remove these buttons if you like).

Registered users have their own profile where they can upload a profile picture and write a description. It also shows statistics on the user's activities on the site (editor's dashboard).

Latest blog / article comment / forum post listed under the profile are also available as RSS.

XCAP support comments both anonymous and by logged in users. As site owner, you control this by setting rules in XCAP Admin. Article Comments also support one level of threading, allowing users to respond to comments. Visitors can also comment with both images and video if desired. A unique and very useful thing is that all comments have their own permalinks.

All items can be reported as abuse, and can appear in a separate queue in XCAP Admin. XCAP's unique feature "Three Strikes" means that if the same item is reported from three different IP numbers it is pulled back from your site and must be approved by an administrator in XCAP Admin before being published again.

With XCAP you top lists for basically everything. Most visited article, highest rated image, most popular author.

XCAP Admin is an administrative tool for managing members, site-rules, functions and incoming content from your users. All user-generated content can be moderated and filtered by the rules you choose. You can also manage Blogs and Forums, such as creating new categories in the Blog tree or give a specific user rights to a particular function. XCAP Admin is divided into three sections:

(Moderating of incoming content)

On the first page of XCAP Admin is the queue you created, dedicated to your XCAP admin user, (everyone can and should have different users with different rights in XCAP Admin). A queue contains objects (comments on articles, blogs, etc.) that need to be moderated.

Administrating existing content)

XCAP Admin supports multiple sites (You can manage multiple sites from the same XCAP Admin tools). You choose which site to administer in the menu and will then have access to administer the functions that your XCAP Admin user has rights to manage. A typical task is to set up the structure for particular functions such as to add a new category in the forums.

(Configure the system)

Here you configure the settings for your sites. You can create XCAP Admin users and sets permissions to the functions they can handle, creating queues, rules (which user type can do what in what function and what kind of moderation the specific user type will have). You can even schedule the rules by function, allowing you to include a particular type of user to create messages in the forums during the day but just read on the weekends and at night.
